Convert PNG to PDF

Turning PNG files into a PDF is usually about making them acceptable somewhere. A PDF attaches, prints and opens everywhere, and a stack of loose image files does none of those things reliably.

PNG pages arrive lossless, which is the right starting point for anything with text, diagrams or screenshots in it. Nothing has been thrown away before the conversion, so edges stay crisp and small type stays readable in the finished document.

The trade is size. PNG does not compress photographic content well, so a PDF built from photographic PNGs can be considerably larger than the same pages from JPGs. For screenshots, charts and line art the difference is small and the fidelity is worth it.

Transparency is worth thinking about. A PDF page has no transparent background, so transparent areas in a PNG are composited onto white. For a screenshot this changes nothing; for a logo with a transparent background it is exactly what you want.

How many PNG files can I combine?

There is no imposed limit. Conversion runs in your device memory, so several hundred images is workable on an ordinary machine.

Will the images lose quality?

The original image data is embedded rather than re-compressed, so what goes in is what comes out.

The PDF is too large for an upload limit. What now?

That is expected when the source images are high resolution. Run Compress PDF with a target size, which reduces the embedded images rather than the document structure.

Are my images uploaded anywhere?

No. The conversion runs in your browser and nothing is transmitted. You can verify it in the Network tab while the export runs.
