About Split PDF

Splitting a PDF comes up when only part of a document is wanted: three pages of a fifty page report for a colleague, one chapter from a scanned book, or a batch of statements that arrived as a single file and need separating per month.

This tool gives you three ways to do it. Extract specific page ranges into one new file, split at fixed intervals so every few pages become their own document, or burst the PDF so each page is saved separately. Whichever you pick, the pages are copied at original quality with no re-encoding.

The original file is never modified. Splitting produces new documents and leaves the source exactly as it was, so there is nothing to undo if you get the ranges wrong on the first attempt.

Ranges use plain notation. Typing 1-3, 7, 12-15 pulls those pages in that order. Page numbers refer to the PDF's own sequence, which is worth checking on scanned documents where a cover sheet can offset everything by one.

How to split pdf

  1. Open your PDF

Single outputs download directly. Multiple files arrive as a ZIP built in your browser.

Frequently asked questions

How do I get one file per page?

Choose the option to split every page. A hundred page PDF becomes a hundred files, packaged into one ZIP so you get a single download rather than a hundred prompts.

Does splitting reduce quality?

No. Pages are copied as they are, not re-rendered. Text stays selectable and images keep their original resolution and compression.

Will the split files be smaller?

Usually, but less than you might expect. Fonts and other shared resources get copied into each output, so five files from one document can add up to more than the original. Run Optimize PDF afterwards if size matters.

Can I split a scanned PDF?

Yes. Scans are page images and split exactly like any other PDF. If you want the resulting files to be searchable, run OCR PDF first, because splitting cannot add text that was never there.

What happens to my file after splitting?

Nothing, because it never left your device. There is no upload, no server copy and no retention window to trust. You can confirm it in your browser's Network tab while the split runs.
