About Extract Pages

Extracting pages is what you want when the original document should stay intact and you only need a piece of it: the two pages of a lease that need signing, one form from a bundle, or the summary pages of a long report.

Enter the pages you want using ordinary notation, such as 1-3, 5, 8-12, and those pages are written into a single new PDF in the order you listed them. Reversing the order is as simple as typing the ranges backwards.

This is distinct from splitting. Splitting divides a document into several outputs; extracting pulls a selection into one new file and leaves the source alone. If you want one file per page, the Split PDF tool does that instead.

Extracted pages are copied at full fidelity. There is no re-encoding step, so text remains searchable, vector artwork stays sharp and images are unchanged from the original.

How to extract pages

  1. Open the PDF

Drop it in and check the page thumbnails so your numbering matches the document's own.

  2. Enter the pages

Type ranges like 1-3, 5, 8-12. The order you type is the order you get.

  3. Download

The selected pages are written into one new PDF and saved locally.

Frequently asked questions

How is this different from splitting?

Extracting produces one new file from the pages you choose. Splitting divides the document into multiple files. Use extract when you want a single excerpt, split when you want the document broken up.

Does the original change?

No. A new PDF is created and your source file is left exactly as it was.

Can I put the pages in a different order?

Yes. Pages come out in the order you type them, so entering 5, 1-3 gives you page five first.

What if I enter a page number that does not exist?

Numbers beyond the end of the document are ignored rather than causing an error, so a range like 8-999 safely means from page eight to the end.
