Convert BMP to PDF

Turning BMP files into a PDF is usually about making them acceptable somewhere. A PDF attaches, prints and opens everywhere, and a stack of loose image files does none of those things reliably.

BMP stores every pixel uncompressed, which is why a single image can run to tens of megabytes. Embedding those directly would produce a PDF far larger than it needs to be, so images are re-encoded during conversion rather than dropped in raw.

The result is usually a dramatic size reduction, frequently by a factor of ten or more, with no visible difference. BMP has no compression to preserve, so nothing of value is lost in the process.

BMP is largely a legacy Windows format now, so these conversions tend to involve older scans, screenshots from earlier software, or output from equipment that never updated. All of them convert without difficulty.

Add your files, drag them into the order you want, choose whether pages should be a standard size or match each image, and export. Everything happens in this tab, so there is no upload wait and no limit on how many images you bring.

Frequently asked questions

How many BMP files can I combine?

There is no imposed limit. Conversion runs in your device memory, so several hundred images is workable on an ordinary machine.

Will the images lose quality?

Not visibly. BMP is uncompressed, so re-encoding during conversion removes redundancy rather than detail, which is why the PDF ends up so much smaller than the source files.

The PDF is too large for an upload limit. What now?

That is expected when the source images are high resolution. Run Compress PDF with a target size, which reduces the embedded images rather than the document structure.

Are my images uploaded anywhere?

No. The conversion runs in your browser and nothing is transmitted. You can verify it in the Network tab while the export runs.
