About Compress Image
Upload limits are usually stated as an exact number, and that number is rarely convenient. Government portals ask for a photograph under one hundred kilobytes, job sites cap attachments at two megabytes, and forms frequently want an identity photo between twenty and fifty kilobytes.
Guessing at quality sliders until a file happens to fit is tedious. Enter the size you need instead, and the compressor adjusts quality and, where necessary, dimensions until the image comes in under it, then reports what it achieved.
Compression uses MozJPEG for JPG, OxiPNG for PNG, and modern encoders for WebP and AVIF, all running in your browser. These are the same libraries used in professional image pipelines, which is why the results hold up better than a naive quality reduction at the same file size.
Identity documents and passport photographs are among the most common reasons people compress images, and they are the files least suited to being uploaded to an unknown service in order to make them smaller. Doing it locally avoids the exchange entirely.

Frequently asked questions
How do I compress an image to exactly 100KB?
Enter one hundred kilobytes as the target. The compressor tests progressively stronger settings until the result fits under it, rather than leaving you to guess at a quality slider.
Will my photo still be recognisable at a small size?
For identity photographs, generally yes down to around twenty kilobytes, since facial features survive compression better than fine background detail. Below that, quality degrades noticeably.
Are my photos uploaded anywhere?
No. Compression runs in your browser using WebAssembly encoders, so passport photographs and identity documents stay on your device. You can verify it in the Network tab.
Can I compress many images at once?
Yes. Add a batch and each is compressed to the same target independently, then downloaded together as a ZIP.
Which format compresses best?
For photographs, AVIF then WebP then JPG. If the destination only accepts JPG, MozJPEG gives noticeably better results at a given size than a standard encoder.
