Convert PNG to JPG
Converting PNG to JPG is worth doing when the destination matters more than the source. PNG is built for screenshots, logos and anything needing sharp edges or transparency. JPG is built for photographs, where small files matter more than perfect fidelity. Which one you want depends entirely on where the image is going next.
This is the most common conversion people regret. PNG screenshots and exports are frequently enormous, and JPG shrinks them dramatically, but transparency is lost and fine text picks up a faint halo around the letters. For a photograph the trade is excellent. For a screenshot containing UI text, look closely before committing.
JPG has no transparency channel. Any transparent area in your PNG file has to become a solid colour, and white is the usual result. For a logo intended to sit on a coloured background this is the difference between it working and it arriving in a white box, so if transparency matters, convert to WebP or AVIF instead.
JPG compresses by discarding detail, so this conversion trades some fidelity for a much smaller file. At high quality settings the difference is invisible in photographs, though flat colour and sharp text can show artefacts. Keep the PNG original as your master copy.
JPG is where you go for size. Coming from a lossless source you are making the one irreversible decision in this conversion, since detail discarded now cannot come back. That is usually the right trade for photographic content and the wrong one for screenshots and line art, where the edges are exactly what JPG handles worst.
PNG decodes exactly, since nothing was discarded when it was written. What the encoder receives is the original pixel data, which means the quality of the result depends entirely on the target format and settings rather than on anything lost on the way in.

Frequently asked questions
What happens to transparency when I convert to JPG?
JPG cannot store transparency, so transparent pixels are filled with a solid colour, normally white. If your image is a logo or an icon meant to sit on a coloured background, convert to WebP or AVIF instead, all of which keep the alpha channel.
Is the PNG to JPG converter free?
Yes. There is no account, no watermark on the output, no daily limit and no paid tier holding features back.
